Initial Comments

Gaston reported some good news for the ARISS Team. Russian ARISS Delegate Sergey Samburov took part in a telecon, recently, with a few members of the ARISS team. In the past year he has been able to participate very little in ARISS activities because of job responsibilities, but he expects this situation to improve, soon. When it does, he hopes to resume participation in telecons and other ARISS activities.

Administrative Session

1. Recognition of ARISS supporters on website, Presenter: G. Bertels

One of our team members asked about listing on our web site a manufacturer who has supported ARISS. Currently we are not listing supporting companies, not even the ones that donated our onboard radios. Gaston reminded us that posting a list such as this is a delicate issue. If we create a list, we must work very hard not to leave out any company that has supported ARISS in any way. We must consult our space agencies about the suitability of such a list, and we would have to use wording on the web site that makes it clear that the agencies have not endorsed the companies in any way. We would want to talk to each of our IARU and AMSAT societies because such a list could impact (negatively or positively) the relations that exist between our societies and the many companies that bring advertising revenue to those societies.

The general consensus of this telecon discussion is that if we post a list, it would be only for support given toward ARISS, and it would not be for support of other activities involving amateur radio in space. General consensus is also that it is probably a good idea to create such a list on our web site. Delegates and team members may send an email with any new thoughts to Gaston, Carol, Mark, and/or Rosalie.

General Session

3. Columbus module status, Presenters: G. Bertels, K. Ransom

Gaston reported that steady progress is being made on the ham TV (DATV) project. Currently, the team is studying paperwork that covers the design review, and are expressing their opinions and concerns. The review is to be finalized by 3 September 2012.

Lou said that for the review, thus far the only problem is that there is no plan for training hardware that we must have in order to train the crews.

Kayser-Italia/ESA uses the name “HamTV” for the project and “HAMVIDEO” for the DATV transmitter.

It is thought that the upmass of the equipment would tentatively be by ATV4, April 2013.

The team is working on a plan for a power supply for the D-710 and also for ham TV.

Kenneth reported that we are working toward launch 49-P (Progress) for sending up the replacement Ericsson VHF radio.

4. New business

The ARISS-I Annual Meeting is tentatively set for April 2013. As is standard, the meeting will require two days. It is hoped that we can schedule a technical meeting immediately before or immediately after the annual meeting. The ESA facility near Rome, ESRIN, may be assisting with the meeting facility.

We hope to have several dates in April for the team to consider so that the most delegates and team leaders will be able to attend.

Our next monthly telecon meeting will be 18 September 2012.
