ARISS I Agenda:

Administrative Session

1. New business (administrative only)

Gaston reminded the team that the ARISS paperwork had been filed with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and today, he distributed the document via email to the ARISS team leaders. The document only refers to frequency bands. Individual frequencies will be added later, except for 144-146 MHz segment, for the Amateur service and the Satellite Amateur service are exclusive users of this segment.

General Session

2. Columbus module status, Presenters: G. Bertels, K. Ransom

The Columbus team members continue to meet regularly via teleconference calls, and are making progress in their discussions on educational topics. The Columbus team also continues to network with ESA and NASA.

Kenneth reported that his group is in the final stages of preparing the certification for flight of the replacement hardware for the degraded Ericsson VHF radio. The team had hoped for a launch of the equipment on flight 33-S, but we may be told that it will be launched on flight 49-P, which is a month sooner than 33-S. The team is endeavoring to finish the certification in time for this earlier flight option. The degraded Ericsson VHF radio may be returned on flight 32-S in October. The team is very interested in trying to determine what the problem has been with this radio.

3. New business

Dr. Regina Blue, the head of the ISS National Lab Education Project, will soon be taking a new job. As background for the team, NASA had set up this job (head of the ISS National Lab Education Project) as one that rotates every six months to someone new. Pam Fox, from that office, reported to the ARISS Team that Jane Gensler will be taking Regina’s place. Jane will begin her job on August 6. Lou suggested that some summarized basic information about ARISS should be sent to Jane and to all future staff members.

Our next meeting date will be August 21, 2012.
