ARISS I Agenda:

Administrative Session

1. New business (administrative only)

The roll was called by Rosalie.

Gaston described World Amateur Radio Day, April 18, sponsored by the International Amateur Radio Union. The IARU was established April 18, 1925, when ARRL’s first president, Hiram Percy Maxim W1AW convened a founding Conference. Delegates of national amateur radio societies met at the Sorbonne University in Paris, hosted by the French society. In 2012, IARU World Amateur Radio Day celebrates the 50th anniversary of Amateur Radio in space. OSCAR 1 (Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio) was launched in 1961 and OSCAR 2 in 1962.

General Session

2. Columbus module status, Presenters: G. Bertels, K. Ransom

Kenneth reported that the ARISS Team has cleared all of the safety reviews required for the Ericsson. This makes it more likely that the team can get the VHF unit launched on flight 33-S. Our UHF unit continues to function fine.

Gaston talked about the two types of teleconference meetings that continue to take place for the HamTV project. Team members take part in both an administrative telecon and a technical telecon. The administrative teleconference examines payload matters, system integration, operational aspects, etc whereas the technical teleconference continues development of the onboard equipment and of the ground segment.

3. New business

Charlie Sufana AJ9N, who has been handling postings in regard to ARISS school contacts for many years, is in the process of moving from Indiana to California. All along the 2300 miles he covered in the last few days, he managed to continue and update the daily postings, a remarkable performance. Thank you Charlie!

Our next teleconference meeting will be 15 May, 2012.

Respectfully submitted,

Rosalie White, K1STO
