ARISS I Agenda:
Administrative Session
1. ARISS-I Face to Face Meeting, October 2011, Presenter: D. Taylor
Dave has sent an email to all delegates to tell us the meeting place has been confirmed for our October ARISS Annual Meeting. The meetings are on October 28-29, and will be held at Space Center Houston next to Johnson Space Center. Space Center Houston meeting rooms have audiovisual facilities so that those delegates who cannot be at the meetings in person can still participate in the meetings.
The team is reviewing hotels for us, and will share that information soon.
Carol will act as the meeting coordinator. Dave Taylor, Rosalie White, and Mark Steiner will assist in various ways. Please write to Carol before the next meeting as to if you can or cannot attend.
2. ariss-press moderated, Presenters: G. Bertels, M. Steiner
Gaston recalled for us that there are three ARISS distribution lists:
>ARISS-Ops list: information addressed to members of the Operations Committee
>ARISS-i list: information addressed to ARISS delegates and ARISS Committees
>ARISS-Press list: information addressed to recipients outside the ARISS community.
Gaston reviewed with the team that there are two kinds of bulletins regularly circulated to recipients within as well as outside ARISS:
> the upcoming ARISS contact schedule circulated by Charlie, AJ9N
> the upcoming ARISS contacts circulated by David, AA4KN.
Gaston said the ARISS-Press list will be updated and reserved for recipients outside the ARISS community. In principle, only the ARISS Board will use this list to inform these recipients. Nevertheless, Charlie and David are invited to continue and use the ARISS Press list for the distribution of their regular bulletins, which they will also circulate to the ARISS Ops and ARISS-I list as needed. Supervision by the Board has no added value for this kind of information.
On the other hand, it's the Board's responsibility to pay special attention to the content and the wordings to be used for announcements addressed to the Press and outside the ARISS community in general.
Gaston related that there is nothing basically new in this approach. The ARISS-Press list has always been intended for outsiders. But, over time, recipients normally belonging to the two other lists have been added to the ARISS-Press list, probably with the intent to simplify distribution of information. What we do now is simply a cleaning up of the ARISS-Press list. We will also check if more individuals or institutions outside ARISS need to be added to this list.
3. New business (administrative only)
None
General Session
4. Columbus module status, Presenters: G. Bertels, K. Ransom
Ham-TV:
No news from ESA or the amateur radio organizations.
Columbus Module radios:
The VHF system has been installed, but it is not operating at a nominal level. It is not able at this point to support school contacts so the team has moved their scheduling back to the FGB until some troubleshooting can be performed.
5. ARISSat-1 status, Presenters: S. Samburov, L. McFadin
Sergey:
Noted that ARISSat-1 also needs to be publicized as Radioskaf-V. ARISSat-1 was built by the AMSAT-NA team and delivered to RSC-Energia, where additional equipment was installed such as the Kursk experiment and flight battery. RSC-Energia considers this final assembly to be KEDR and has received the Russian callsign RS1S. Sergey gave the status of KEDR onboard the ISS, and noted that there is an updated status of KEDR on the RSC-Energia, including many pictures. This is of a series with the first being Kolibri back in 2002.
KEDR’s battery has been fully discharged and will be charged to full capacity 2 weeks prior to deployment, per plans. The preliminary procedure is in work, including pictures. Deployment of KEDR is currently set for the end of July this summer, pending any delays due to the Shuttle launch schedule.
6. New business
None.
The next international partners meeting will be Tuesday, July 19, 2011.
Respectfully submitted,
Rosalie White, K1STO, and Mark Steiner, K3MS, for the ARISS Team
