ARISS I Agenda:
Administrative Session
1. 10 years of ARISS School Contacts, Presenter: G. Bertels
Gaston noted that today was the 10th anniversary of the very first ARISS school contact. He listed all of the types of ARISS volunteers we have supporting the program, and what they do for the educational groups. A hearty thank you went to everyone for their role in the successes of the past 10 years.
2. ARISS-I Face to Face Meeting, Presenter: D. Taylor
Dave reported again that we hope to have our ARISS-I face to face meeting in April or May in Huntsville or Houston. Dave will be the point of contact for coordinating between the ARISS US team and the local ham radio club that will assist with the meeting logistics. Dave asked delegates who have not responded to Gaston about dates in April and May that they could not attend a meeting, to please send emails to Gaston very soon.
3. New business (administrative only)
None
General Session
4. Columbus module status, Presenters: G. Bertels, K. Ransom
- HamTV status
Kenneth reported that the European group working on the amateur TV proposal didn’t hold a telecon this week because of the holidays, but they’re looking at the DVB-S2 format for TV. The ARISS International Project Selection & Use Committee has received major portions of the amateur TV proposal. They will be reviewing it in consideration of whether to recommend it to the ARISS-I delegates for a positive vote.
5. ARISSat-1 status, Presenter: G. Smith
- ARISSat Publicity
Gould stated that he had not spoken with Lou or Mark for a few days, so he didn’t have a recent update on the problem with Customs and the ARISSat shipment. Mark and Lou were to fly home to the US on the 22nd, and if the Customs problem wasn’t resolved by then, the Russian ARISS team would be handling the problem. This would also mean that the Russians must do all of the testing that Lou was going to assist with.
Rosalie asked that the ARISS delegates please distribute news about ARISSat to their IARU and AMSAT national societies once the news is ready to circulate. The AMSAT ARISS team is preparing an item aimed at hams and an item aimed at teachers. Delegates can encourage their organizations to publicize the news. The delegates were asked to find ways to distribute the information to teachers, as well, such as through their space agency education offices.
6. New business
Gaston reported that he asked Christophe about our shipment of the new QSL cards from the printer. Shipments should be going out in the next few weeks.
Our next meeting will be held January 18.
Action item: Delegates who have not responded to Gaston about dates they would not be able to attend an ARISS-I face-to-face annual meeting in the months of April May – please send emails to Gaston as soon as possible.
