ARISS I Agenda:

Administrative Session

1. QSL card status, Presenter: G. Bertels

The European ARISS team had several designs created for the new QSL cards. Gaston will circulate to the delegates three examples of a new QSL card. Each delegate will vote on the choices. Please rank your choices by 1-2-3 priority, and send to Gaston. Following the vote, the printing will be done.

2. New business (administrative only)

There was no new business.

General Session

3. Columbus module status, Presenters: G. Bertels, K. Ransom

L/S Band project: discussions continue in weekly teleconferences of the team, and discussions are divided into two sections. The first is the preparation of a document to be submitted to ESA regarding the project. The second working group is working on a document on requirements for the ground stations – a description of requirements plus a list of what equipment meets the requirements. The goal of the team is to have equipment that is certified and manifested for the Columbus module.

VHF/UHF equipment: the VHF/UHF flight hardware for the Columbus module has been signed off as being certified for use in the module. Kenneth and Steve met with Astronaut Paolo Nespoli for a training station on how to install the hardware in the Columbus module during Expedition 26 (launch is currently scheduled for December 13). Paolo is looking forward to doing the installation work and is excited about it. He is also excited about using the equipment.

4. ARISSat-1 status, Presenters: L. McFadin, G. Smith

The ARISSat-1 safety review was completed for the written safety presentation and the written hazard report. The meeting that was held for the review of these reports was a two-day review running 6 hours each day.

The written report was approved by the space agencies with only simple modifications being required. Thanks were expressed to our team members who took part in this lengthy process.

The ARISSat-1 hardware is in storage now at Johnson Space Center and we are awaiting instructions from Russia on when to ship it overseas. Then Lou and Mark will travel to Russia to assist with final testing before the satellite is shipped to the launch site.

Fact sheets about ARISSat-1 are being drafted to be distributed. Discussions have begun on what to publicize about the satellite to educators, to hams, and to the general public, and how to distribute this publicity to them.

The customs paperwork is being awaited from Energia. All of the certificates are done, but Sergej doesn’t have them -- the customs people have them and will send the paperwork to Johnson Space Center. Gaston expressed thanks from all ARISS delegates to the ARISSat team.

5. New business

The next meeting will be November 16, and there is a time change before that, making the time 1215 UTC.

There was no further new business, and Gaston adjourned the meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Rosalie White, K1STO
