ARISS I Agenda:
Administrative Session
1. New business (administrative only)
None.
General Session
2. New ARISS QSL card status, Presenter: R. White
Rosalie sent wording for the back of the QSL card to the delegates. Kenneth provided one addition for the card. No other comments were received. Rosalie will finalize the card and as the Europeans received the best cost quote, the order will be submitted to them.
3. Columbus module status, Presenters: G. Bertels, K. Ransom
VHF - The cable was delivered to KSC and work continues to close paperwork for its certification. The hardware could be installed in Columbus as early as ULF-5, but will most likely be installed in early 2011.
L/S-band – Kayser Italia submitted a proposal for HAM TV on Columbus to ESA. A contract has been prepared and is being finalized. Kayser would be the contractor with ESA. ARISS/ARCOL cannot be a subcontractor because it is not a legal entity, so AMSAT-Italia might subcontract with Kayser for ground segment issues. This is similar to the way ESA contracted with the polish university for the Columbus patch antennas. In that case, UBA signed the contract.
Technical aspects need to be addressed and the ground segment needs to be developed.
Gaston submitted to ESA an introductory document which describes how the amateur radio service works. All ground stations will ensure they follow their radio regulatory rules.
The ARCOL WG has been in collaboration with all parties and has been holding preliminary discussions. Gaston will soon submit the proposal to the PS&U committee for approval.
4. ARISSat-1 status, Presenters: L. McFadin, G. Smith
The ARISSat U.S. team is working with the Russians to obtain the required documentation for the NASA safety review.
The team continues to test modules and hopes to have a flight unit ready by the end of the week. Multiple units will be available in the next few weeks. The satellite needs to pass vibration tests and once all documentation is gathered and the safety review is passed, it will be shipped to Russia.
Sergey has agreed to a teleconference on Thursday, July 22 to discuss ARISSat.
Sergey provided a sample of the material to be used for the satellite cover to a NASA safety rep. He received the battery mounting plate and will do a fit check this week.
5. New business
Kenneth congratulated Sergey on the successful activation of the SSTV system.
The next ARISS-I meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 17 at 11:15 UTC.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol Jackson for the ARISS Team
