ARISS I Agenda:

Administrative Session

1. New business (administrative only)

Gaston reported that the NASA Education Office will be having an evaluation done of all of its programs next year.

Gaston reported that we now have another associate member (organization): AMSAT-YV in Venezuela. This group will work with ARISS-Europe due to their language barrier to English.

Rosalie reported that the delegates voted on a name that will replace the SuitSat-2 name since it is not a suit: ARISSat-1. Lou had suggested a version of Phoenix, but NASA recommended staying away from that since it is a name used by a JPL project. ARISS delegates agreed we should follow NASA’s recommendation.

Gaston reported that we have collected call signs for the CW contest, and we have collected youth languages for ARISSat-1. Our SuitSat-2 greeting that is recorded will have to be re-recorded. Some of the messages are longer than 20 seconds.

General Session

2. SuitSat-2 status, Presenter: L. McFadin

Lou gave a report on SuitSat-2 (now ARISSat-1). He has been on travel, but will be updated today on all progress. An agreement will have to be done between parties as to who is responsible for what.

The team has been working on software and mechanical parts. The new satellite will be square in shape. Solar panels will be on all 6 sides and the modules that were to be placed in the suit will now be located inside the structure. A quarter wave whip antenna will be used - 70 cm on the bottom, 2 m on the top. Cameras will be mounted so that they look in all directions as it spins. Handles will be located on the corners to allow handling. During the EVA, covers will be pulled off the solar panels, a switch will be flipped to turn it on, and then it will be tossed.

For frequency coordination, we’ll use band plan Rev H; Lou will announce these frequencies officially in the near future.

Rosalie asked Lou to thank the SuitSat-2 team for all of their very hard work right now toward meeting the deadlines.

3. New business

None.

The next teleconference should be held on September 15.
