ARISS I Agenda:

It is with great sadness that the ARISS team recognizes the passing of Dieter Schlieman, KX4Y. He was a true diplomat and key to getting the Echolink and IRLP systems working together so that ARISS contacts could go on to a much wider audience. He will be missed.

Administrative Session

1. ARISS-I Face to Face Meeting – June 2009, Presenter: G. Bertels

All is coming together for the meeting to be held June 17 – 19, 2009 at ESA-ESTEC in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, and Gaston has sent out emails with details as they are coming together. He is starting to receive confirmations from team members regarding their attendance and arrival/departure dates. Please get back to him as soon as possible with your plans. Gaston has made booking arrangements with the Strand Hotel, and the cost is 50€ per night, including breakfast. More info can be found on the Meeting Participants Summary Table available at www.ariss-eu.org The meeting room will be near the main entrance, and is close to the restaurant as well. There is room for splinter meetings outside the main meeting room.

Mark Severance is working with the NASA-ESA Liaison Office to see if he can get lower rates through them, and will let folks know what he finds as the data becomes available.

Mark Severance is working the details for the Amateur Radio Working Group (ARWG) meeting for the earlier part of the week. The joint ARWG / ARISS-I meeting will be Wednesday, and for delegates only.

Internet access will be available for both meetings.

2. Special Event Certificate, Presenter: F. Bauer

Frank has not been able to finish the certificate due to his extreme workload, but anticipates having it ready for the next international partners meeting. He will circulate the list of items needed for the generation of the certificates.

3. Charles Simonyi Activities, Presenter: W. Marchant

See attached Powerpoint charts: http://www.rac.ca/ariss/SimonyiSummary20090216.ppt

Note that Charles will be the first participant to fly a second time.

Will will work with Sergey to try to include extra pass times to help out with conflicts with other events.

Lou inquired of Sergey if there were any plans to have Charles perform antenna testing, and Sergey asked Lou to email the details of his question.

4. New business (administrative only)

Frank: Although he is still the Exploration Chief Engineer, he is taking on a bigger role in supporting the ISS and the Space Shuttle. This is significantly increasing his workload.

Sergey shared a picture of Mike Fincke in his bright ARISS shirt. Carol Jackson will post it under “Latest News” on: http://www.rac.ca/ariss/oindex.htm

General Session

5. SuitSat-2 status, Presenter: L. McFadin

The SuitSat team will be meeting in Phoenix this coming weekend. The plans are to connect various portions of the system and run some integration tests to measure performance. Also in the plans is a management coordination meeting to ensure that the team is all working together. Progress is being made on various hardware components.

6. New business

Mark Severance: The ARISS 2 m / 70 cm antenna for the Columbus Module is currently slated for the ULF-3 ISS flight on STS-129 in November of this year. It looks good for its installation during this flight as well.

The next international partners meeting will be Tuesday, March 17, 2009. The U.S. goes to Daylight Saving Time on March 8, so it will be at 11:15 UTC.

Respectfully submitted,

Mark Steiner, K3MS, for the ARISS Team
