ARISS I Agenda:

Dieter Schliemann is very ill and close to death. His many contributions have been most helpful, especially with IRLP and Echolink. We will keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

Administrative Session

1. Next ARISS-I Face to Face Meeting – Spring 2009, Presenter: G. Bertels

ESA-ESTEC will be able to host the meeting and is waiting for details such as dates, numbers of attendees, facilities, etc. We anticipate 30 – 40 people in the main room with a need for A-V support and teleconferencing. A small room for side meetings (5-10 people) would be very helpful as well. It is possible that many observers from Europe may be in attendance as well.

Mark Severance is interested in having an Amateur Radio Working Group (ARWG) in conjunction with this meeting, and will pursue this possibility.

A tentative schedule is ARWG, Monday and Tuesday, a joint ARWG/ARISS meeting on Wednesday and the ARISS meeting, Thursday and Friday. The weeks of June 8, 15, and 22 are in current consideration.

2. Richard Garriott Debrief, Presenter: F. Bauer

Richard had a very good experience in his flight, and listed his many amateur radio activities as the highlight of his trip. He was very emphatic about his appreciation of all that the team pulled together and pulled off. He was amazed at the level of activities that were coordinated and was blown away on all that he was able to accomplish. We will be able to share portions of the debrief as it was a private one, as opposed to the standard NASA debriefs.

3. Special Event and Certificate, Presenter: F. Bauer

The 25th anniversary event closed on January 15, 2009, and the certificate is in development.

4. New business (administrative only)

None.

General Session

 5. SuitSat-2 status, Presenter: L. McFadin

Lou met with part of the team to go over interconnections of some of the components. There will be a team meeting in February. Some items being worked are a power-reduction effort; a change in receive frequency to take care of a potential third-order harmonic issue; and there is a new team working on the software. Lou will send out a frequency plan to Graham.

6. New business

ARISS Columbus antennas – M. Severance.

The current plan is to get these antennas on the manifest for STS-129 for launch and installation on the Columbus module later this year. Plans are in work to figure out which radio can be used in the module. Mark Severance and Lou will distribute information to Graham and Gaston regarding antenna fabrication, location and installation.

The next international partners meeting will be Tuesday, February 17, 2009.

Respectfully submitted,

Mark Steiner, K3MS, for the ARISS Team
