ARISS I Agenda:
Administrative Session
1. ARISS Meetings, Moscow, recap, Presenter: F. Bauer
Frank thanked those who attended the meetings, both in person and via teleconference. The meetings were productive and the presentations have been posted. The minutes will also be posted after Frank has a chance to review them. Frank gave special thanks to Mark Severance for his work in arranging the meetings and to Sergey as host and for the trip to Kaluga.
2. Canadian Delegate Resigns, Presenter: F. Bauer
Stefan Wagener has overwhelming responsibilities with his new job and he will be traveling extensively and so has resigned his position as Canadian delegate to ARISS. He will continue with his work on the University of Manitoba telebridge station and his work with the Manitoba Cubesat project. Since he was the AMSAT Canadian delegate, AMSAT will propose a replacement for him and will consult with ARISS in the near future.
3. Replacement of Onboard ISS Ham Equipment, Presenter: F. Bauer/S. Samburov
Because it is difficult to schedule maintenance and repair onboard the ISS, Sergey has decided to fly ISS Ham backup equipment. This hardware includes the backup Kenwood D700, SSTV and cables. The equipment is at Baikonur and will launch on the next Progress on September 12. He will not be able to bring back the current onboard equipment. The software on the D700 is thought to be Rev F, well below the current Rev I version. There are still many concerns regarding this swap-out approach by several members of the ARISS international team. It needs to be better coordinated within the team.
4. Richard Garriott Activities, Presenter: F. Bauer/W. Marchant
Sergey and GCTC have worked with Richard on his ISS Ham training. Will is working on operations and has put together a slide presentation of Richard’s planned activities. http://www.rac.ca/ariss/GarriottSummary20080819.ppt
Richard recently asked to use his callsign, W5KWQ, on the SSTV images. As trustee of NA1SS, Frank gave his permission to do this. He asked for Sergey’s permission as trustee of RS0ISS. Sergey will need to consult with the Russian Ministry of Communications before giving his consent.
5. New Business (administrative only)
None
General Session
6. SuitSat-2 Status, Presenter: L. McFadin
The SuitSat team is working on the IHU software development so that it can test the IHU with the SDX. The team is currently integrating the IHU components, and then the two boards will be tested together.
The team is preparing to test the power system with the solar panels to make sure it is working properly.
For the RF system, the work continues on the receiver and transponder.
A separate channel is being added so that commanding can be done without the SDX.
The lengths of cables were determined in Moscow; these can now be fabricated.
7. New Business
Miles offered his Web site for storing the SSTV images during Richard’s flight. Frank agreed that someone needs to review and post the images.
Miles requested a separate email list to discuss SSTV. Frank agreed. Anyone who is interested in being on this list should notify Carol.
The next ARISS-I meeting will be held on September 16, 2008.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol Jackson for the ARISS team
