ARISS I Agenda:
Administrative Session
1. ARISS-I meeting, October 9 and 10, 2006, Presenter: F. Bauer
Frank has been unable to get the agenda out for the October meeting yet, but he is planning a half day of status from the regions, a half day on SuitSat 2, and some time on SSTV and other operations. Sergey has items to add, including QSL cards, education discussions, and the upcoming ARISS meeting in Russia. Miles asked if there will be a section for new projects and proposals, and Frank said there would be. Any specifics in advance would be greatly appreciated, so that members can see the information in advance and in order to most efficiently plan the agenda.
There will also be a technical/design meeting on SuitSat 2 on Sunday, either in the afternoon or the evening, Lou McFadin to decide.
NASA folks from the education office will be attending on Monday.
Frank requested that attendees send their travel plan details to Carol Jackson.
Planning to attend:
Russia – Sergey Samburov and Irina Pronina
Japan – Masanobu Tsuji
Canada – possibly Robin Haighton (Rosalie will check with him)
Europe – (Gaston Bertels cannot attend), possibly Carlos Eavis (Rosalie will work this, Frank to send email to Peter Kirby) and possibly Graham Shirville
US – Rosalie White, Frank Bauer
Other attendees – Lou McFadin, Mark Steiner, Miles Mann, Kenneth Ransom, Keith Pugh, possibly Dave Larsen
2. New Business (administrative only) - None
General Session
3. Ericsson, Kenwood Status, Presenter: K. Ransom
There are audio issues with the Ericsson radio, but other on-orbit activities have kept us from being able to spend any time troubleshooting this issue.
The Kenwood D-700 has had all five Program Modes reprogrammed, although PM 1 has been mostly reprogrammed for school passes. Pavel Vinogradov reported down to Sergey that the Kenwood is working fine, except that when it is connected to the SSTV system it runs too long. Sergey asked him to try to troubleshoot this issue, but to restore the Kenwood before he leaves. The fan runs when the radio is on a lot, but does not need to run at other times.
4. SSTV Status, Presenter: S. Samburov
Sergey reported that the SSTV unit is not working on-orbit at this time.
Miles asked which replacement unit Sergey was going to recommend. Sergey replied that it was not a replacement unit but the backup unit, and then inquired about the backup SSTV unit.
Frank: The SSTV team is working to run some tests on the ground to help troubleshoot this issue.
5. New business
Mark Steiner gave an update of the school contact planned with Anousheh Ansari and the George Washington University this Friday. He reported a busy week for the Anousheh Ansari activities, since her request for a school QSO arrived so recently. The QSO will be Friday, Sept 22, with George Washington University and two local schools; GWU had no ham equipment, but their staff is excited. The ARISS Team, Anousheh’s team and Space Adventures people have been very helpful. There will be a total of three school contacts with three different crewmembers on Friday.
Frank: Anousheh Ansari was not able to obtain her US license, so the US crew will be control operators for any contacts for Anousheh that include any third-party communications. This will only work for those countries for which the US had third-party agreements. She is free to use RS0ISS for general QSOs, but this will prevent her from talking to third parties outside Russia. Using RS0ISS, she will be free to talk to any licensed amateur radio operator.
Irina reported that the Russian team is working to provide a school contact for Anousheh with a group in Kaluga.
Gaston sent an email to Sergey, John Nickel, and Kenneth Ransom covering the uplink information for September 22. He also coordinated two other contacts. This will bring the total to 5 contacts in 3 days.
Respectfully submitted,
Mark Steiner, K3MS, for the ARISS Team
