ARISS I Agenda:

Administrative Session

1. ARISS-I meeting, October 2006, Presenter: R. White

Our meetings are on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 9 and 10. Details on housing, transportation, registration, and so on are at www.amsat.org. AMSAT invites everyone to attend their symposium as well, which will feature a tour of NASA’s Ames Research Center on Sunday. Region and committee reports will need to be provided in advance so Carol can post them, with early access for the delegates only. Frank is soliciting items for the agenda – please email them directly to him, and cc: Carol Jackson and Gaston Bertels. Frank is fairly confident that Bill McArthur will be the guest speaker at the AMSAT Colloquium banquet Saturday night, and hopes that he will be able to stay for at least some of the ARISS meeting.

Gaston requested a letter from Frank explaining that Gaston must attend this meeting, in order for Gaston to be excused from the Belgian national elections on that Sunday.

2. Japanese space visitor, Daisuke "Dice-K" Enomoto, Presenter: R. White Sergey asked if there were any last minute instructions for him, as he is to meet Dice-K for training shortly after this telecon. Keigo had sent an email apologizing for not being able to attend, and explaining that Dice-K was not able to obtain a US or Japanese amateur radio license due to time constraints. ARISS-Japan was not able to speak directly with him, only to communicate via email. His Russian license will only allow him to speak with stations via direct link (no third-party), and, unfortunately, the orbital path for his flight does not align well for direct school passes over Japan. Sergey thinks that Dice-K will be certified to operate under a Russian license later today.

3. School contacts -Thomas Reiter, Presenter: G. Bertels Thomas Reiter has asked ESA to set up 3 contacts for school events. The first event this week will be a telebridge for Patras, Greece, the first radio contact with ISS for Greece. The second will be a direct contact with Switzerland, and the third will be a telebridge with a museum in Mannheim, Germany. Gaston is also working to set up two “pure ARISS” (as opposed to ESA) contacts. They should both be direct and in September.

4. New Business (administrative only)

None

General Session

5. Columbus Module, Presenter: G. Bertels

Testing on the antennas was at higher levels than previously communicated to the design team, and damage occurred. Repairs and re-designs are being accomplished on the units and they should still be able to be delivered on schedule for installation for launch.

6. New business

SSTV:

Sergey noted that we should listen to 144.49 MHz simplex, as they will begin SSTV operations this week. He was not able to get the driver for the Webcam working, so the pictures will be from files onboard. Despite attempts, Pavel was not able to coordinate setting the repeater mode with Sergey and is setting up SSTV. Kenneth recommended that Pavel use 145.80 MHz, since 144.49 MHz operation might cause problems over Europe. Sergey said that 144.49 MHz needs to be used over Moscow, and Kenneth asked that Sergey request Pavel to change to 145.80 MHz after the testing is complete. Sergey asked for a written request for this change. Frank will let the amateur radio community know that there will be testing of the SSTV system, and to listen to 144.49 MHz over Moscow to possibly receive a picture.

Respectfully submitted,

Mark Steiner, K3MS, for the ARISS Team
