ARISS I Agenda:
Administrative Session
NOTE: Sergey had to leave quickly, but noted that SuitSat was securely packed and in Baikonur. The crew has been trained in SuitSat assembly and radio operations.
Frank noted that the SSTV safety review was held on the US side on Friday, and that an integrated SSTV system review (US and Russia) will be held for final safety approval.
1) ARISS International Meeting, U.K., Presenter: F. Bauer
Discussion:
Frank commended the UK and European partners for a fun and successful meeting in August.
2) Exploration Initiative, Presenter: F. Bauer
Discussion:
Frank is exploring the idea of NASA concurrence on Sergey’s and Space Adventures request (informal at this point) for potential collaboration on the Energia/Space Adventures circumlunar mission. This would be in addition to the Exploration Vision work approved at the UK ARISS-I meeting. He would like to keep the committee small at this point, to allow for quick movement and resolution.
Rosalie and Frank clarified that these discussions are pre-decisional. As such, the circumlunar potential collaboration discussions should stay within the ARISS team and not be passed to the general ham population until more relationships are defined and discussions held with NASA. Once this is accomplished, the ARISS delegates will be requested to render an official opinion on this endeavor.
3) New business (administrative only)
Discussion:
Ken Pulfer apologized for difficulties in coordinating the ARISS website recently with Scott Stevens, and hopes that they have been worked out. He will be on holiday in Europe for the next month or so.
General Session
4) MISSE5/PCSAT2, Presenter: B. Bruninga
Discussion:
MISSE5/PCSAT2 is doing well, and has plenty of power margin. Bob is offering voice repeater operations as a possibility, although it is on the same 2m frequency as earlier ARISS ops. It is 2m up/70cm down. It can be turned on for a single pass (timeout length is commandable) after a command station enables this mode.
Carlos said it would be useful for school-to-school contacts.
Miles requested that Bob send out a description of the commanding modes (minus the actual command codes) to the ARISS-I team, since many of these commanding and operation modes were not disclosed to ARISS previously. Bob agreed to do so.
5) SuitSat Status, Presenters: S. Samburov, L. McFadin
Discussion:
As noted with Sergey earlier, the SuitSat and SSTV hardware have been shipped to Baikonur for a (currently scheduled) launch of September 8 on Progress. The Expedition 12 crew has completed water tank training for installation.
Miles and Frank will work on press releases for SpaceCam and SuitSat.
6) New Business
Discussion:
Miles would like to see a hardware meeting soon to recap the status of current hardware development, and to review the status of on-orbit hardware.
Miles is still accepting requests via email for SpaceCam registrations for ARISS-I members.
Respectfully submitted,
Mark Steiner, K3MS for the ARISS Team
